“The Phantom Of The Opera” was first released by Universal Studios in 1925.  Based on the 1911 novel by Gaston Leroux, this classic horror film stars silent film great Lon Chaney, Sr. in his acclaimed role as “Erik the Phantom.”

Born in 1883, Chaney at a young age perfected the arts of pantomime and facial expression through communicating with his deaf parents, mimicking the people and reenacting the events of his life for them.  Chaney is well-known for his fantastic movie makeup and the pains he took to realistically portray his characters.

Organist Dennis James will be playing from his adaptation of the original 1925 orchestral score composed by G. Hinrichs and M. Winkler.  For over thirty-five years James has played a pivotal role in the international revival of silent films with live music, beginning his career as a professional film accompanist at Indiana University while a music student in the late 1960's. James now tours with his own Silent Film Concerts production company to professionally perform to silent films with solo organ, piano, and chamber ensemble accompaniments in addition to presentations with major symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada.  James has been named Hollywood's International Ambassador of the Silent Film, bringing silent film programming around the world- most recently with sellout appearances at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and his performance debut at the dedication of new Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore.
